Catherine Lithgow's Professional Biography
With a Bachelors Degree in Psychology, Catherine is a graduate of the College of Wooster, Class of 1986. With an emphasis in Early Childhood Development, Statistical Analysis and a Minor in Classical Studies, Catherine spent 8 years working with CHI Centers, Inc, providing adults with disabilities vocational training, recreational opportunities and case management services. As the Coordinator of Recreation, she was notably responsible for hiring and training all recreation staff, managing the program’s budget and providing intake services for clients participating in all recreation programs.
In 1995, Catherine joined a newly formed educational multimedia company, TeraMedia. Partnering with TeraByte, New Zealand’s oldest interactive web design company, Catherine provided production assistance and marketing/trade show coordination for this fledgling company. Developing educational software for children of all ages, Catherine worked closely with a team of experts to deliver several award-winning products. Catherine is proud to have worked alongside the phenomenal entrepreneurial team and co-founders of TeraMedia: Dr. Vivian Horner, creator of Nickelodeon and Sally Celmer, Marketing visionary.
In 1997, Catherine utilized her training skills and newly formed technical skills when joining the team of Catapult Software Training Company, a national software training company and subsidiary of IBM. As a contract trainer, Catherine was responsible for delivering top notch technical training to organizations throughout the Washington DC metropolitan area. Familiar with the Microsoft Office suite of products, she provided instructor-led Performance-Based Training in open-enrollment classes as well as in private, dedicated classes at customer sites.
In 1998, Catherine joined the international law firm of Cleary Gottlieb, as a trainer and Help Desk support person. Catherine was responsible for training all new and existing employees and was a valuable on-demand resource for the legal community.
During her tenure at Cleary Gottlieb, Catherine was tasked with the responsibility of creating an in-house Certification Program for the secretarial staff. This program was designed with a core competency model in mind for the target population. Derived from the needs and goals of the organization, the outcome was to provide training and evaluation for each person’s performance at the conclusion of the program, thus raising the level of base skills. Utilizing TutorPro, an award-winning eLearning software product, Catherine created a blended program that combined the existing resources with newly on-demand eLearning tutorials.
At this phase of her career, Catherine is very interested in eLearning as it relates to a blended approach to educational enrichment. Armed with additional technical skills that increase her understanding of web design as it relates to curriculum development, Catherine seeks to better understand and utilize modern approaches to eLearning and on-line learning theory. Catherine currently maintains several web pages on a volunteer basis and works as an Senior Instructional Designer for Windwalker Corporation, a training solutions organization based in McLean, Virginia.
